Outlander filming at Lallybroch 2024

Outlander Producer Matthew Roberts has revealed the issues around filming at Lallybroch , real life Midhope Castle : “Lallybroch, it’s a real place, it’s not a set that we built, it’s Midhope Castle.

“When we first started filming there, it was relatively simple to find time, our location manager would go and schedule and there’d be no problem.

If you’re visiting Scotland why not take a tour to Lallybroch ?

Outlander Season 8 will be filmed entirely in Scotland . Lallybroch is Midhope Castle and Castle Leoch is Doune Castle.

Midhope Castle , also know as Broch Tuarach , is the real life location for Lallybroch , Jamie Fraser’s ancestral home and almost certain to feature in the Outlander prequel Blood of my Blood

“And as the years have gone on, because it has become such an iconic location, that more and more tourists go to see it.

“There’s tour buses and certainly during the summer when people plan trips to come out and do the Outlander tour.

“And we find we’re having a really hard time getting in to film the show, the irony is just terrific.

“We can’t get in to film the show that made the location famous, because people want to see the location because of the show. Wrap your head around that! “

He continued: “That’s why a lot of times you’ll see in these episodes that we’re outside for a moment, and then we pop inside, because all this stuff is on stage.

“So we control that. We control the weather, you can film any time, it doesn’t have to match anything. It works out perfect.

“It’s getting that time to film at Midhope [Castle] that becomes problematic, because you don’t just show up, say we’re filming on Thursday.

“It takes at least a week to dress it, so we’ve got to get it cleared out, clean it up, you’ve got to dress it and then we come in, base camp gets put up and then you film on Thursday, let’s say. “

“And then when that’s done, we usually try to stay a couple of days and get a lot of stuff, but then you tear it all down and it takes another week.

“So you have to block out a few weeks for filming in this kind of location and that’s become more and more challenging as the series goes on.”

Outlander fans in the US , UK and around the world are getting excited about seeing the second half of season 7 this year and season 8 , the final season , next year and they need to know where season 8 will be filmed . Will it be filmed at all the places we already know – Lallybroch , Castle Leoch , etc – or will there be a few new locations to add to the list ?
